Our Story
The Foundation
Doug Mellum’s transportation career began in the 1970s. With experience working within major courier organizations, he developed a deep understanding of the transportation industry and how large operations functioned.
The Epiphany
As Doug traveled nationally for work, he came to a realization: The real opportunity in transportation was building a strong local company focused on quality service, accountability, and relationships.
He saw the value in running a business where customers weren’t treated like numbers, drivers were respected as partners, and local relationships mattered.
The Launch
When a private equity company acquired Doug’s employer, uncertainty followed for customers and employees alike. Seeing an opportunity to build something different, Doug launched Elite Transportation with a few vans, strong customer relationships, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
The Growth
From day one, Elite’s philosophy has been slow, steady, sustainable growth.
Doug’s vision was to build a reliable, quality-focused company that customers and drivers could trust long-term.
That philosophy has allowed us to avoid the pitfalls of rapid expansion while maintaining the consistency and service people have come to expect from Elite.

What started with a handful of vans has grown into a diverse fleet serving businesses across the Twin Cities and beyond.
